His lips curve upward and pull back over his white teeth. Two small dimples appear on his cheeks and I melt
open my arms and lift them up, pulling him into me
he smells the way sunshine feels.
the palms of his hands are rough as he outlines me
dipping in and out of the curves my flesh has formed and no matter how deep he digs there is no shame there
in his arms I am a treasure found
he presses his lips to places I have forgotten existed
runs over me like a river and dry earth becomes fertile, pliable, wet
I ache
and when it is audible he opens his mouth over mine to take my pleas and turn them into his own
because he knows
knows there is a particular kind of elusive pleasure
where one can feel the ecstasy of their lover as intensely as they feel their own
it is the kind of loving that makes the body race to keep pace with two souls twisting together, the force of stars being formed, dying and reborn
I am undone
broken shards of me pull back together and seal under the lacquered gold of his fingertips
I am so close that I can’t see
we are so close to the universe that we can’t breathe
and then
just as suddenly as he came
he is gone
and I wake
the diffused sun’s light pouring through my window makes everything grey
I spend the entire day getting over him
waiting for my body and heart to understand what my mind already knows
He is just a cruel dream.
